Sportfields

In order to offer as many children as possible the opportunity to take part in a sporting event, this year we will be introducing three levels of competitions: Performance, Development and Participation events.

Performance Events

Performance events will be our most competitive level of events. These are traditional “A team” events. Our aim is to field teams in order to reach finals and ultimately win competitions. These events will include trials, wherever possible, and selection based on performance in PE lessons. To increase opportunities for all, children can compete in a maximum of three teams per year. Discussions will be had with children regarding their preferences.

Development Events

These events will enable us to offer opportunities to those children who may not have been selected for Performance Events but have shown an interest in representing the school. These will still be competitive events against other schools and will enable more pupils to take part.

Participation Events

These events will largely be for KS1 pupils, where traditional competitive events are not always appropriate. For example, multi-sports events alongside other schools.

Ability Events

These events will help us ensure that children with Special Educational Needs, who may struggle at mainstream events, are offered opportunities to take part in sporting events. These are in addition to Performance, Development and Participation events, which are open to all pupils as we pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive school.

We hope that by offering different opportunities we are able to increase participation in sports events even more this year and have more pupils represent our school.
