Pupil Premium Funding
Schools are required to publish details of their Pupil Premium allocation and how they spend the funding on an annual basis. The Pupil Premium sum allocated to Portfields is calculated according to the number of pupils in school receiving free school meals or who have received free school meals in the last 6 years, the number of children who have been looked after for more than six months, and also children of service personnel.
The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to make funding available so that schools can ensure that pupils of all backgrounds have an equal opportunity to make good progress and any gap in attainment is closed.
The DfE guidance states that “It is for the schools to determine how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils within their responsibility.”

- To use pupil premium funding strategically to support identified children in reaching their full potential and achieving our vision for all pupils.
- To accelerate progress so that children reach and exceed expectations.
- To offer an enriched curriculum that will raise aspirations and educational experiences for our pupils.
Our Principles:
- To use the funding responsibly for the good of the children.
- To ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups.
- To individually map provision so that children are all seen as unique, with support meeting their needs appropriately.
- We recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
- We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. The Pupil Premium Grant will therefore be allocated to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school identifies as being socially disadvantaged.
- Not all children receiving Pupil Premium will be in receipt of interventions at one time.
Our Provision:
- Learning support to enable children to fully access the curriculum and help to assist a path of accelerated progress.
- Pastoral support to ensure that self-esteem is high and social, emotional and behavioural needs are met.
- Enrichment activities that offer children the opportunity to develop talents, enhance their understanding of the world and raise aspirations.
- Access to targeted intervention groups to overcome specific barriers or gaps in learning.
Reporting:
- Pupil Premium will be an item agenda for each appropriate governing body committee.
- The Inclusion Manager/SENCo will update the governing body at each aforementioned meeting to ensure that progress, provision and effectiveness are discussed accordingly.
- At the beginning of each academic year, a Statement of Intent will be published detailing the proposed expenditure of Pupil Premium grant for that academic year.
- At the end of the academic year, the Statement of Intent will be updated to evaluate how the funding has been used to overcome barriers of learning and close the attainment gap for individuals.
- A sensitive approach will be taken in order for these children not to be identifiable through written, published documentation.
