Spring 2

Our topic this half term is 'Bright Lights, Big City'. To spark the children's imagination we had a Red London Bus come and visit. Mrs Wood's became our conductor and took us around the 'sights of London'. They thoroughly enjoyed their bus journey and having the opportunity to look at an iconic bus they link to London. They even got to sit in the bus drivers seat! In the next few weeks we will be learning about the capital cities of the U.K, The Great Fire of London and in D.T we will be looking at making moving pictures based on London. Outdoor Learning has started again this half term, please ensure your child keeps their kit in school for the whole half term.

Thank you

Thank you to all of Year 1 parents and carers. Our WOW days could not happen without your support. An extra thanks goes to all that offered to help on our recent WOW day, the children love having parents come in and help. It makes the day extra special. We will be looking for helpers in the next two half terms for other trips we hope to go on in this academic year, so please keep a look out for parent mails.

World Book Day!

The children had a fantastic day dressed up as their favourite characters! We also were fortunate enough to have a local author, Iain Row, share his story with us and ask him lots of questions. We very much enjoyed listening to ' A Knight Named Clover.' I think we may have a few budding authors and illustrators in the making.

Pictures to follow shortly.

Homework

Your child will have been given their homework this week. Normally it will be handed out on a Wednesday to be completed by the following Monday. If you have any questions please ask the class teacher.

From w.b 2.03.2020 your child has been given a password to access Numbots. It will either be stuck in their Reading Logs or Homework books. The children are very excited to play it and will help secure their number knowledge. To access it please follow the information below. If you have any problems please let the class teacher know and they will help.

Key Word Flashcards

To enable your child to be fluent and confident readers we have sent home high frequency word flashcards. Please help your child to read these words on sight, without hesitation. We will check every few weeks and if they are ready they will move onto the next set. In our Key Stage One Assembly the children will receive a certificate and a merit for completing the set of words they have learnt.
